Upgrade Priority Checklist

This upgrade priority tool is a written interactive checklist for Catch 1 Billion Ducks. Use it whenever cash or feathers are burning a hole in your inventory and the shop is full of tempting icons. It will not invent fake DPS. It will force a bottleneck decision between weapon, dog, and feathers while the game remains in beta.

Keep these pages nearby: weapons tier list, dogs tier list, items resources, sell ducks for money, and beat Boss Duck.

How to use this tool

  1. Finish one hunt-and-sell cycle.
  2. Answer the Gate Checks in order — stop at the first FAIL.
  3. Follow the recommended spend.
  4. Buy one upgrade.
  5. Hunt again before reopening the shop.

If you buy three things between checks, you are not using the tool.

Gate 0 — Free power first

CheckPass conditionIf you fail
Duckle claimed?Like + group reward already collected when offeredStop paid debating. Follow get Duckle dog
Basic controls comfortable? You can hunt without fighting the UISkim how to play
You sold at least once this session?Cash is real, not theoreticalSell now via sell ducks for money

Free and foundational steps beat every mid-shop argument.

Gate 1 — Identify the bottleneck (pick one)

Read each statement. Choose the most true line from your last ten minutes.

If this sounds like you…BottleneckDefault spend
“Ducks take forever to go down.”Clear speedWeapon
“Kills are fine, but the session feels messy or slow to convert.”Helper / conversionDog
“Shop guns and dog ranks are fine, but bigger upgrades are locked.”Progression gateFeathers
“I am broke even though I hunt a lot.”Sell disciplineNo upgrade — sell and route cash
“Farm is easy, Boss Duck is not.”Boss kitWeapon pressure first, then dog prep

Only one primary bottleneck. If two feel equal, prefer the one that blocked you most recently.

Gate 2 — Weapon branch checklist

Use when Gate 1 selected weapon.

  • My current gun feels weak on common packs, not just on Boss Duck.
  • I can afford the next role-appropriate gun without deleting my dog plan.
  • I am buying clear speed or boss pressure — not a cosmetic sidegrade.
  • I checked the weapons tier list role for my phase (early / mid / late).

If three or more boxes are checked: buy the weapon. Guide: get weapons. Catalog: items weapons.

If fewer than three: do not force a gun. Re-test dogs or feathers.

Gate 3 — Dog branch checklist

Use when Gate 1 selected dog.

  • Duckle is already claimed (or truly unavailable).
  • Jeff or another scalable dog upgrade would remove friction I felt this session.
  • I am not buying a novelty companion while clear speed is still awful.
  • The spend still leaves a small cash buffer for emergencies.

If three or more boxes are checked: buy the dog upgrade. Guides: get more dogs, upgrade dog Jeff. Catalog: items dogs. Ranks: dogs tier list.

If fewer than three: your “dog feeling” may actually be a weapon or sell problem.

Gate 4 — Feather branch checklist

Use when Gate 1 selected feathers.

  • Cash upgrades stopped changing my loop in a noticeable way.
  • I know the next feather sink is high impact (not novelty).
  • I can farm feathers without abandoning sell cadence entirely.
  • I read the resource map on items resources.

If three or more boxes are checked: prioritize feather routing with get more feathers.

If fewer than three: take a cash weapon or dog that restores momentum first.

Early / mid / late priority presets

Early preset

  1. Duckle
  2. Cheapest comfortable weapon upgrade
  3. First meaningful Jeff ranks
  4. Learn feather sources without ignoring them

Mid preset

  1. Clear-speed weapon spike or Jeff ranks — whichever Gate 1 selected
  2. Feather banking for known sinks
  3. Skip B-tier sidegrades from the tier lists
  4. Re-run this checklist after every big sell

Late preset

  1. Boss-ready weapon pressure
  2. Finished dog prep
  3. High-impact feather upgrades
  4. Only then prestige or collection buys

Boss Duck go / no-go card

Before a Boss Duck attempt, require:

RequirementReady?
Weapon past pure starter awkwardnessYes / No
Dog prepared (Duckle and/or Jeff ranks you rely on)Yes / No
Cash buffer for post-fight recoveryYes / No
You read fight basicsBeat Boss Duck

If any critical row is No, the priority tool says prep, not “another random mid cosmetic.”

Anti-tilt rules

  • One upgrade per checklist cycle.
  • Never empty your entire wallet “because the shop glowed.”
  • After a patch, assume ranks can move — re-answer Gate 1 from a fresh hunt.
  • Codes and scripts can accelerate income; they do not erase bottlenecks. See codes and scripts.

Final decision sentence

Spend on the upgrade that removes the pain you just felt — weapon for slow kills, dog for messy conversion, feathers for locked long-term gates — and only after free Duckle and a real sell cycle.

Run that sentence every time the beta shop tries to distract you.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is this upgrade tool a live calculator?

No. It is a checklist framework on purpose. Beta stats change, so bottleneck questions stay more trustworthy than fake DPS math.

What should I upgrade first in Catch 1 Billion Ducks?

Claim Duckle when available, establish selling, then upgrade whichever bottleneck Gate 1 identifies — weapon, dog, or feathers.

How often should I rerun the checklist?

After every meaningful sell dump, failed boss attempt, or patch that changes shops. Buy once, hunt again, then reassess.

Can I follow creators instead of this checklist?

You can, but creators may optimize different phases. Use their picks as candidates, then verify with Gate 1 on your own account.

Where do I go if the tool says I need weapons?

Open the [weapons tier list](/tier-list/weapons/) and [get weapons](/guides/get-weapons/) after finishing the weapon branch checklist above.

Where do I go if the tool says dogs or feathers?

Dogs: [dogs tier list](/tier-list/dogs/) and [get more dogs](/guides/get-more-dogs/). Feathers: [items resources](/items/resources/) and [get more feathers](/guides/get-feathers/).
